Professor Dave Howey and his team, a collaboration between the University of Oxford and Bboxx, has pioneered the use of large-scale real-world battery telemetry and advanced machine learning to improve battery lifetime, reliability and sustainability for off-grid energy users across Africa.
This work has been recognised by the Faraday Institution Community Awards 2026 as winners of the Battery Innovation Programme – Innovation Award.
